Appointments

Our standard appointment time is 15 minutes.  We routinely allow longer times for certain appointment types, e.g. driver’s licences, care plans, childhood immunisations.  Please ask for a double appointment if you have a complex problem or a number of different problems which you would like addressed. This is greatly appreciated by our doctors, as it helps them stay on time.

Online bookings for regular patients are available for a convenient and user friendly alternative to book your next appointment. If you are in need of an urgent appointment or cannot find a suitable time to see your usual doctor online, please call reception and we will do our best to assist you.  Online bookings are not available to new patients to the practice. New patients are requested to contact reception staff on 8327 1570 for their appointment enquiries.

Although we are predominantly booking face to face consultations, in selected circumstances, telephone consultations are available for existing patients of the practice. This will be at the discretion of your doctor and consultation fees apply.

These appointments are primarily for regular patients who have flu like symptoms, or patients with extenuating circumstances. We are unable to provide an appointment time for the call from your GP but may be able to give an approximate time frame.

Please ring as early as possible to give our doctors appropriate time to make follow up arrangements on your behalf.

We realise that many people who are at work during the day are often not able to attend our appointments during normal hours. To cater for this, we have clinics on Saturday mornings. Appointments at these times will be prioritised for those who are unable to attend during our usual consulting times.  For medical attention outside of our opening hours, please see Emergency and After Hours options.

Wherever possible, you are encouraged to attend your appointments at the clinic. In certain circumstances, at the discretion of your doctor, home visits may be offered.

We encourage you to see your usual doctor for your routine appointments wherever possible.  Continuity of care plays an important role in good healthcare, however, the need for an unplanned appointment is often the case.  If we are unable to accommodate you with your preferred doctor, we will make every attempt to provide an appointment with an alternate doctor within the practice. The doctors at Moana Medical Centre all have excellent working relationships and will communicate any important new health developments back to your usual doctor and, depending on circumstances, will arrange a suitable follow up with him/her.

If you are unable to get a timely appointment with your doctor, and you feel that your problem necessitates being seen sooner, please feel free to explain your situation to our reception staff and, depending on circumstances, we may be able to accommodate you earlier.

Our experienced staff may decide that your most appropriate option is to call an ambulance. Wherever possible they will check first with a doctor or nurse before giving you this advice.

We appreciate that medical problems sometimes arise later in the day. We encourage you to ring us if you find yourself in this situation – the earlier you call, the more likely we will be able to help you. We will do our best to offer you an appointment, however, sometimes this may not be possible. If this is the case, we will provide you with alternative options for medical assistance.

If you find yourself unable to attend your appointment, please cancel at your earliest convenience.  Appointments are sometimes difficult to obtain, and this will enable us to offer it to someone who may well be in need.  A non-attendance fee may apply if insufficient notice is given.  A minimum of two hours is required, but 24 hours or more is appreciated.
