In addition, persons with new onset of other clinical symptoms compatible with COVID-19, such us headache, myalgia, nausea, vomiting or diarrhoea AND have been in close contact to a confirmed case of COVID-19; or who have returned from overseas or interstate in the past 14 days should also be tested.  Symptomatic patients MUST self-isolate white awaiting test results.

If you are experiencing any of these symptoms, please ring Moana Medical centre on 8327 1570 for advice on the most appropriate assessment and testing options.

Gloves

The purpose of wearing gloves is to avoid cross-contamination.  For instance, in a hospital, workers glove up to touch a patient and then DISCARD the gloves before moving on to the next task.

If you are wearing the same set of gloves all over town, you are carrying germs everywhere!  Every door you touch, shopping trolley, supermarket items, petrol pump, your phone, and your face.

It would be far more effective NOT to wear gloves and to WASH YOUR HANDS or if this is not possible, use hand sanitiser, after every store or every task.

Moana Medical Centre

The staff at Moana Medical Centre have made a few alterations to make our surgery compliant with current regulations, yet remain patient friendly during the current pandemic.  We would like to thank you for your patience and understanding during this difficult time.

The welfare of our patients is our primary concern, and we will be doing our utmost to ensure your protection and wellbeing.  Although we have a new look reception area, you can be assured that we will continue to provide the same warm and caring service that you are accustomed to.

While we are taking every measure available to ensure your safety when you visit our surgery, your support to enable this is essential.
It is important to look after your own health and wellbeing at this time

  1. Support immune function.
    –     Get adequate sleep
    –     Eat lots of fresh fruit and vegetables
    –     Exercise regularly
    –     Try to keep your stress levels to a minimum
  1. We are asking all patients who phone to book an appointment if they:
    –     are symptomatic with flu-like symptoms, including cough, fever, sore throat, or breathing difficulties,
    –     have returned from overseas or interstate in the last 14 days, or
    –     are associated with any person who has a confirmed COVID-19 infection.
If a patient is deemed high risk, they are asked to attend one of the dedicated COVID-19 Clinics.
  2. Patients with a cough, sore throat, runny nose or temperature will be asked to wait in their car for the doctor to attend them.
  3. Our practitioners and staff routinely wash their hands and use hand sanitiser throughout the day.
Clinical staff use gloves and protective personal equipment as indicated with and in-between patients.
  4. Hand sanitiser is available at the front door for patient use before entering and exiting the building.
It is also available throughout the clinic.
  5. All door handles, EFTPOS terminals, phones, common areas, and the reception desk are cleaned continuously throughout the day.
  6. Seating is minimum 1.5m apart in the waiting room.  It is also available outside.
  7. We have removed magazines and toys in the waiting area.

We will continue to take all precautions available to ensure the clinic is a clean and safe place to come.

Please help us help our local community by keeping us informed of any symptoms you might be experiencing.

COVIDSafe app

The Department of Health COVIDSafe app is a tool that helps identify people exposed to coronavirus (COVID-19). This helps to support and protect you, your friends and family.

The COVIDSafe app will contribute to slowing the spread of COVID-19. COVIDSafe supports the current manual process of finding people who have been in close contact with someone with COVID-19.

The COVIDSafe app is completely voluntary. Downloading the app is something you can do to protect you, your family and friends and save the lives of other Australians. The more Australians that connect to the COVIDSafe app, the quicker the virus can be found and the spread prevented.
